NEC fines Waddani and Kulmiye for campaigning during voter ID distribution process
NEC Chairman Abdikadir Iman Warsame didn't say how much each party was fined for the violating the code of conduct.

HARGEISA – Somaliland’s National Electoral Commission on Thursday fined Somaliland’s two main political parties, Kulmiye, and Waddani, for ‘violating’ the electoral code on conduct signed between the NEC and the three national parties earlier this year.

The NEC also sent a final warning to both parties, stating that there will be zero tolerance for any party campaigning during the voter ID process.

“Campaign stickers are not allowed, and any material promoting a political party are not allowed during the voter ID distribution process,” he said.

“We are calling on Somalilanders to not take part in political campaigning while voter ID cards are being handed out in their region,” he said.

The NEC did not disclose the fines for each party.
