Finance Ministry transfers final $2 million payment to National Electoral Commission

Somaliland's Presidential Election is less than four months away.

HARGEISA – Somaliland’s Finance Minister, Zamzam Abdi Adan, on Wednesday, transferred the final $2 million payment to the National Electoral Commission, as part of the central government’s pledge to cover the costs for November’s Presidential Election.

Earlier this year, H.E President Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud Silanyo announced that his government will be providing 90% of the funds needed for the Presidential Election after Somaliland’s International Partners announced that they will no longer be funding the election due to the multiple postponements.

Following the President’s announcement, the Finance Ministry transferred $1.2 million to the NEC in March and $2 million in June.

NEC Chairman Abdikadir Iman represented the NEC at the handover ceremony and thanked the Finance Minister and the central government for sticking to their promise.
