HARGEISA – Somaliland’s National Drought Relief Committee on Monday provided the public with an update on the committee’s $10 million fundraising campaign for the country’s drought victims.
Somaliland’s Information Minister, Osman Abdullahi Sahardiid, told reporters during a press conference outside the Presidential Palace that the committee still hasn’t reached their target goal because many donors haven’t fulfilled their pledges.
“We are still waiting for the private sector to pay the amounts they have pledged. I do not want to state any names, but they know who they are. We hope that they will come through on their promises as soon as possible,” Sahardiid said.
“We are also still waiting on Somalilanders in the diaspora to fulfill their pledges. We will provide all the details and the total amount of funds that have been pledged and raised in the near future,” Sahardiid added.
Somaliland’s National Drought Relief Committee, headed by Vice-President Abdirahman Ismail Saylici, launched the $10 million fundraising campaign earlier this year to rebuild Somaliland’s farming and livestock sectors.
