HARGEISA – Somaliland’s National Electoral Commission (NEC) on Saturday (Sep 30) gave the green light to the nation’s three presidential candidates and their running mates to contest the upcoming presidential elections slated for November 13.
Musa Bihi Abdi and Abdirahman Ismail Salyici, from the ruling Kulmiye party, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro and Mohamed Abdullahi Abdi from the main opposition party, Waddani, and Faisal Ali Waraabe and Abdi Ahmed Musa Abyan from UCID are now the official candidates for the election.
A ceremony marking the occasion was attended by senior NEC officials, candidates from the three parties, and senior officials from the three parties.
Somaliland’s constitution does not allow more than three political parties, which is why there are only three presidential candidates standing for the election.
The official campaign for the presidential election is set to start in mid October. Each party will be given a day to campaign during the campaign schedule, to avoid conflict and violence between different party supporters.
