The move was met with warm reception from politicians from all parties.

HARGEISA – The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud Silanyo, issued a presidential decree on Saturday night (Sep 30), banning government officials from using government property to campaign for November’s presidential election.

The decree also orders all state media outlets (Radio Hargeisa, SLNTV, and government newspapers), to give fair and equal coverage to each of the three political parties.

President Silanyo also called on all government officials, specifically regional governors and regional army chiefs, to give their full support to Somaliland’s National Electoral Commission (NEC) during the election process.
