HARGEISA – Somaliland’s National Civil Service Commission Chairman, Sharmake Muhumed Geelle, issued a response letter to the NEC’s ethics committee on Sunday (Oct 8), after the committee called on Gelle to take disciplinary action against SOLNAC finance director, Abdikarim Mohamed Hinif for taking part in political campaigns.
In the letter, Geelle said that the issue was beyond his mandate because Hinif was appointed to his post via a presidential decree in 2010. Geelle also called on the committee to forward their case to the Presidential Palace.
Hinif was appointed to the Somaliland National Aids Commission by H.E President Ahmed Mohamoud Silanyo, in August 2010.
The NEC’s ethics committee issued a letter to Geelle on Oct 7th, stating that Hinif’s recent appointment to a Kulmiye campaign committee was a clear violation of President Silanyo’s latest decree banning civil servants from taking part in campaigns for November’s presidential elections.
It is not clear whether the Presidential Palace will accept the NEC’s calls and take action against Hinif.
