HARGEISA – The National Electoral Commission’s ethics committee handed Somaliland’s main opposition party, Waddani, their second fine on October 2nd for violating the electoral code of conduct again, late last month.

The ruling from the NEC’s ethics committee, which was addressed to Waddani and the NEC’s appointed body, stated that Waddani violated the code of conduct on Sep 31st, after conducting illegal campaign activities in Baligubade, the administrative capital of Hawd region.

Both Waddani, and ruling party, Kulmiye, were fined by the NEC in late July, after illegally campaigning in Togdheer region, while voter ID cards were being handed out in the region.

Prior to the fine in late July, both parties were given numerous warnings to halt illegal campaigning in Togdheer.
