Five youth charged for attacking residence of opposition leader

HARGEISA – Five young men are facing charges for throwing rocks and items at the residence of Waddani presidential candidate, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro, on the evening of October 27th.

Somaliland’s national police commissioner, Abdullahi Fadal Iman, announced the arrests of the youth in a press conference at police headquarters, on the following day (Oct 28).

Iman noted during the press conference that four young men were originally arrested, and that another young man was handed over to police by his parents, shortly after the attack.

Iman also said that two vehicles related to the attack, have also been impounded.

Iman also vowed to prosecute the five accused youth, and other suspects that have yet to be caught, to the fullest extent of the law.

According to Iman and the initial police report, Irro and his family were not injured in the attack, but a member of his security personnel sustained minor injuries.
