Ex-Silanyo official joins opposition party

Isse is now a member of Somaliland's main opposition party, Waddani.

HARGEISA – Mustafe Abdi Isse, a former longtime official within President Silanyo’s administration, who was fired as Marodi Jeh governor, announced on October 31st that he has officially joined the main opposition party, Waddani.

Isse told Eryal TV on October 31st that he has decided to join the opposition party, after being accused by the government of secretly supporting the opposition.

“I was being accused of being secretly a Waddani supporter because of my tribal affiliation with Abdirahman Irro, so I have decided to officially join Waddani. Since I was accused of being on their side, it only makes sense to now join them,” Isse said in the interview.

Abdi and Isse share a laugh during a Kulmiye event.

Isse also said that he has decided to join the party because he doesn’t believe Kulmiye candidate, Musa Bihi Abdi, is the right man for job. Isse also said in the interview that Abdi is a threat to Somaliland’s unity and stability, and cannot be trusted to lead the country.

Isse, was relieved of his Governor duties in a presidential decree issued by President Silanyo on October 25th. Prior to his Marodi Jeh posting, Isse also served as the Governor of Gabiley, Sool, and Awdal regions over a five year span.
