HARGEISA – Somaliland’s ruling political party, Kulmiye, has accused Waddani presidential candidate, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro of holding a victory celebration at his residence in Hargeisa on Tuesday night.
Hassan Said Yusuf, Kulmiye’s secretary-general, held a press conference with the party’s spokesman, Hassan Mohamed Ali, on Wednesday in response to the reports of victory claims from the opposition.
“We are warning Waddani’s senior officials against holding false victory celebrations. A Waddani victory celebration was held at the presidential candidate’s home on Tuesday night, another celebration was held at Maamuus Hotel. Many celebrations are also being held in Burao,” Yusuf said.
“These events are against the electoral code of conduct and Somaliland’s electoral laws and are stirring confusion amongst our people,” Yusuf added.
Yusuf went on to say that everyone is ‘aware of the election results’ and hinted that his party is confident will emerge victorious. Yusuf also called on his party’s supporters to keep calm and remain happy in their homes until the results are announced.
“Everyone is aware of the election results and who won and lost. We will see which party ends up celebrating, and which party becomes stunned when the results are announced,” Yusuf said.
“We are calling on all Kulmiye supporters to keep their happiness within their private residences,”.
The National cannot confirm that a victory celebration was held at Irro’s residence on Tuesday night. The National, however, can confirm that a Waddani victory celebration was held this week at Maamuus Hotel in the Waddani stronghold of east Hargeisa (New Hargeisa district).
