DJIBOUTI – Somaliland’s Vice President Abdirahman Ismail Saylici met with Djiboutian President Ismael Omar Guelleh at his residence on Thursday.
According to Djibouti’s national broadcaster, Radio Televison of Djibouti (RTD), the two sides discussed bilateral ties and economic and security issues.
Vice President Saylici spoke to the press after the meeting, briefly discussing the purpose of the meeting.
“I am currently in the country for personal reasons. President Guelleh requested to meet with me before I return to Somaliland. We had a good discussion and talked about many issues of mutual concern,” Saylici said.
“Djibouti and Somaliland are two brotherly nations that share a border, which is why it’s important to hold frequent talks,” Saylici added.
Vice President Saylici was accompanied by Somaliland’s Minister of State for Planning and Development, Osman Hassan Aw-Ali,
Djibouti announced their support for the Saudi-led coalition on Wednesday and downgraded diplomatic relations with Qatar. Saudi Arabia is currently building a military base in Djibouti.
The United Arab Emirates will also begin the construction of their military base in Somaliland soon.
Somaliland has yet to announce who they’re siding with, although it is widely expected that the Government will side with Saudi Arabia and the UAE, as they have done in the past.
