HARGEISA – Waddani Presidential Candidate, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro, returned to Somaliland from Saudi Arabia on Thursday, after departing the country late last month to take part in the annual Hajj pilgrimage.
Irro briefly spoke to reporters on the grounds of Hargeisa Egal International Airport upon arriving, and commented on the latest updates related to November’s presidential election.
“I’d like to start by thanking God for the successful conclusion of the voter ID distribution process, and that for the peaceful conclusion of the last distribution round in Sool and Sanaag ,” Irro said.
“I’d also like to take this opportunity to call on the International Community to closely follow the events leading up to the presidential election, and to bring credible international election observers,” Irro said.
Irro and his colleagues have repeatedly voiced their concerns over the current election process and have publicly stated on many occasions that they believe November’s election won’t be free and fair.
Many Somalilanders fear that Irro is gearing up to dispute the election results if he loses to the presumed-front funner, Kulmiye candidate, Musa Bihi Abdi, regardless of the margin.
