NEC rebukes appointment of civil servant to Kulmiye campaign team

HARGEISA – Somaliland’s National Electoral Commission (NEC) issued a letter to Somaliland’s Civil Service Commission (CSC) on October 7th, after Kulmiye leader, Musa Bihi Abdi, named a civil servant to a party committee earlier this week.

The letter, which was addressed to CSC Chairman, Sharmarke Muhumed Geelle, condemned the appointment of Abdikarim Ahmed Mohamed Hinif to Kulmiye’s election observer committee, calling it a violation of President Silanyo’s decree earlier this month.

The NEC’s ethics committee

Last week, H.E President Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud Silanyo issued a presidential decree barring government officials from using state resources for campaign purposes, and exempting civil servants and members of the armed forces from taking part in political campaigning.

Hinif currently serves as the Director of Finance for the Somaliland National Aids Commission (SOLNAC).

The ethics committee also called on Geelle to take ‘disciplinary action’ against Hinif for taking part in political campaigning.
