HARGEISA – The presidential candidates of Somaliland’s three political parties, Kulmiye, Waddani and UCID, have kicked off their election campaign across the country after the NEC officially announced on October 19th that the campaign will start on October 21st.
The three political parties, Kulmiye, Waddani, and UCID, will campaign on different days during the three-week period, to avoid clashes between different party supporters.
UCID was the first party to start off the election campaign last Saturday (Oct 21), and showed off their increasing support across the country, following Faisal Ali Waraabe’s debate performance on Oct 19th, which impressed many Somalilanders.
Kulmiye kicked off their campaign last Sunday (Oct 22). Kulmiye leader, Musa Bihi Abdi, launched his campaign in Hargeisa, and had H.E President Ahmed Mohamoud Silanyo and several senior cabinet ministers stump for him in Burao.
Waddani launched their campaign the following day (Oct 23), sending half of the party’s heavyweights to eastern Somaliland to show off their support in the battle ground region of Saanag. Presidential Candidate, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro, stayed in the capital, Hargeisa, and sent party leader, Hersi Ali Haji Hassan to Ergiavo to court the eastern vote.
The campaign will run on until November 1oth, three days before voters go to the polls on November 13th to elect the 5th President of the Republic of Somaliland.
